Tank Top to Purse Tutorial

I have a mini tutorial for y'all today. Remember when I told you about the rummage sale at my church where everything was FREE?! Well I got quite a few things that once I got home, didn't fit or I didn't like. That just means I get to use them to make other things right? I found this tank top that when I picked it up I turned to my friend Jen and said, "This would be a cute purse!" Well, it turns out I was right. Here is what it looked like as a shirt

I took the bottom and cut it off

Then I took the part I cut off and cut a rounded bottom out of it.

I then turned the tank top inside out. Mine had a built in bra so I had to cut it out

Now we are gonna pin the rounded piece we cut out to the bottom of the tank top. Just remember you need to make sure you are pinning right sides together. You don't want the wrong side of your fabric on the out side of your bag. I always pin the middle of the fabric FIRST.

Now sew this together. Turn right side out

Now you can be done OR you can take the extra fabric and make some flowers to sew onto the front.

I made this for my daughter because she has been grabbing anything that looks like a purse and trying to pull it over her shoulder and wear it. It is a perfect size and it looks pretty darn cute right?!

BEST part was it was absolutely FREE ( unless you are counting the thread in which case you could say it cost me a couple of cents! )

GIVEAWAY

Sorry I didn't get back to y'all yesterday. We had an interesting evening. Story to follow but first things first, who wants a free canvas print of a beach?!?! I figured since we just got back from our vacation I would celebrate by giving away a picture of the beach on canvas! WOO HOO

The give away is for a 13 X 19 CANVAS print of the picture above. I LOVE this picture. I have this same one blown up in my family room ( well I did until we started remodeling this room and my husband dropped the frame and the glass broke and scratched the picture. ) If you would like to enter the give away, Just leave me a comment below! I plan on doing a sewing give away some time next week to celebrate my 1 year anniversary with my sewing machine!

Any ways...my day yesterday was crazy! I had forgotten that Kayla had her 18 month check up which meant shots! It was also RIGHT during nap time and she was already overly tired from vacation. She was excellent for her appointment but was done being good as soon as we tried to go shopping. It was 4 and we didn't have any food at home, so we decided to go to Target and then eat directly after. Kayla was being a MONKEY! As we were walking out to the car Cody and I debated on what to get for dinner. I really didn't want to do a sit down place because I was worried about Kayla being crazy. Then my husband said, "Maybe she is hungry." he was right. She had lunch WAY early so we decided on BJ's which is a sit down. We went in and sat down and Kayla started crying because I tried to help her with her milk. Then Tyler announces he has to go potty. BOOOOOO I took both of them since she was crying and only wanted mommy. She cried the whole time we were in the bathroom. Just to clarify, when I say CRY, I really mean SCREAM. Like uncontrollable screaming, kicking, arching her back....all that good stuff. We go to sit back down and daddy and went ahead and ordered her food so it would come and maybe she would stop screaming. I try and give her some food and she freaks out. I decided to take her outside. Every one was staring at us probably wondering why I hadn't taken the brat outside yet any ways.

We get outside and she is still out of control. Kicking, screaming, arching her back, throwing herself on the ground...I gave her Tylenol in case her leg hurt or something from the shots. After about 10 minutes I take her back inside and she is still crying. Finally she falls asleep on me and went completely limp. Like, it felt like I was holding fifty pounds and I had gotten a salad. Booooooo

Long story short, she ended up having a hurty tummy. She poop about 6 or 7 times yesterday and normally she poops one or two. She also had some serious diaper rash which didn't help matters. Needless to say I didn't really get back on the internet last night. My husband was leaving again today for another 3 weeks for work so we wanted to have some time to hang out just the two of us before we went to bed. It was a long day.

Today has been slightly better. I am hoping to get some vacation pictures up on facebook and our family blog. Maybe some artsy pictures on my photography blog too. I will share some here as well. I am crossing my fingers.

DON'T FORGOT TO LEAVE ME A COMMENT ABOUT THE CANVAS PRINT! Just so you know on etsy I sell this size for 60 so it is a good FREE item! I will leave the GIVEAWAY open until FRIDAY the 13th which I think is an excellent day to give something away! I will announce the winner on Saturday! Hope everyone has a great week!

I'm BACK

We are back from vacation and let me tell you it was a blast! We had some minor glitches but we always do. Thank goodness they were just minor and weren't things that were gonna stop us from having a fun family vacation. Now that we are back my house is a MESS, Kayla has a doctors appointment in a couple of hours ( she is getting shots too! oh JOY! ) and then tomorrow we are taking Daddy to the air port because he has a 3 week business trip. In other words we are HOME but busy for a day or two. I have been having a fun morning trying to catch up on all my blogs I subscribe too. That is always fun and overwhelming all at the same time. I am on my MAC and so I can't post pictures right now but I took about 1200 pictures! HA! I need to go through and fix and shrink them so I can get them up for all to see. For now, I just wanted to say hello, I am back and I have some sewing planned for later this week. I got a couple of new followers while I am gone which took me over the 50 mark! WOO HOO I think that calls for a giveaway don't you?! I will post about that later on tonight when we get back from the doctors and are back at home.

HAPPY MONDAY EVERY! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Left Overs

I LOVE left over fabric from projects. Especially when the project wasn't for me. The purse I did for my niece that I LOVED was mainly because of the fabric. I have a little girl who likes to break my sunglasses. I went through TWO pair this month alone. Okay one was actually my fault. So I had to buy some new ones last week and I have decided she doesn't get to play with mine any more. That called for a sun glasses case and look how cute it turned out using the left over fabric from the buttercup purse

Sorry the picture of the inside is blurry. My house is SOOOOOO dark it makes for crappy pictures. For the inside I used terry cloth so it will be soft on my lenses. I saw a tutorial for a ruffled zipper pouch on Noodlehead and LOVED it! So I basically took that tutorial to do the ruffle outside and then made my own modifications to do the rest. AIn't it cute? I did make it slightly short and had a couple of other minor glitches but all in all I will be proudly sporting it at the BEACH TOMORROW! I am SO excited. I will be gone Wednesday through Sunday to Corpus Cristi here in Texas. We have never been and it kills me to be so far away from the beach. I grew up in Southern California where trips to the beach were fairly frequent. We went at least 4 or 5 times a year not including the one week in August we camped the whole week on the beach. Needless to say I am WAY excited to go to the beach for a couple of days and have Kayla touch the sand and water for the first time. SOOOOO no posting for me for a couple of days. I know you'll miss me, but there are plenty of good blogs to fill the void until then! haha

Peace out and have a great weekend!

Presents

I am so happy because I FINALLY finished all the gifts for my nieces and nephews in New Jersey. I wanted to make the girls purses so I started with the crayon purse you all already saw. Here it is again for those who missed it

Then I made Ashlee's. She said she liked green and so I picked the fabric and started the purse. I love it so much that I want to keep it for myself! haha I used the Buttercup Bag from the Made By Rae blog. I did the pocket different. The purse is so small that I figured a pocket would work better if it went all the way down to the bottom of the bag.

Isn't the fabric cute? I love it. Here is the inside

And here is what I did to the sides. I like these buttons I put on the handles

On to the next purse. Genna LOVES silver and sparkles. Her words exactly. I think she will be pleased.

I used a tutorial for that too Simply Party Clutch it is REALLY small. But she is 9 so I think it will be perfect.

On to the boys. First for Logan I made a crayon roll. He likes Toy Story so I made him one out of some Toy Story sheets

Hopefully he will like it. I made part of it out of knit and that was a BAD idea. Not to self and everyone else who reads this, NO KNIT when making crayon rolls. haha Then I made Joe who is 12 ( I think ) an ipod case.

So here is the girls stuff

And here is all the boy stuff

Which reminds me I forgot to post pictures of the tie onesies.

And her is everything all together

I think it all turned out good. I am hoping nothing falls apart and they love everything.
