Lots of crafting has in deed been going on over in my neck of the woods but having kids in school and moving a thousand times sure makes it hard to blog. I really thought that once kids started school it made my life so much easier to craft and blog. I'm not quite sure WHY but they start school and then I seem to be even busier then before. In the last 4 years my family has moved 3 times which has been really hard. Packing and unpacking and then packing and unpacking again is super frustrating. One of the times we moved we went from a 2700 sq ft house down to a 1600 sq ft house. We had some movers help us which was a nightmare and we will NEVER do again, but every time they would bring a box in and ask, "Where do you want this?" I'd have to say, "Just put that in the garage." It was so depressing. We didn't have an extra room for an office or craft space which made it even harder to get crafting done. Not only does it make crafting and sewing hard, but it also makes cleaning hard. The year that we lived in the 1600 sq ft house I mostly crochet. haha Crocheting doesn't take up nearly as much space as all of the other crafting does. Then we moved again and we live in an 1800 sq ft house. Not too much bigger but it had a dinning room AND it was an eat in kitchen. The dinning room has carpet which is the stupidest thing ever, so it is our CRAFT SPACE! YEAH! My daughter is 6, almost 7 now and she loves crafting just as much as her momma. We just went to a birthday party this weekend and after spending way too much on Christmas presents and then my husband just started a new job and won't get paid for a month, we are broke. Don't you hate that!? So, my daughter and I crafter presents for her friend instead of buying toys and I'm glad we did. I bet our presents last longer then the toys she got any ways.

Here is what we came up with the day before the party and the couple of hours leading up to it.
My daughter got a sewing machine from Santa for Christmas and she is dying to sew all of the time now. So we made the purse together. She sewed the purse part together and I sewed the straps. :-) The purse is reversible which I love. Then we decided to make her a crown. I LOVE how it turned out. In fact, I was thinking about making some and putting them in my easy shop. We had already bought her this notebook and were going to sew her a cover for it but we ran out of time. So instead I just cut out the girls name in vinyl and stuck it to it. My daughter also made her a loom board bracelet and we there in a hair bow that I made a million years ago and never sold. Score! So she got 5 things from us that were made with love. I hope she liked them. It is really a treat getting to sew and create things with my daughter. I absolutely love it! Now if only there were more hours in the day.

I wanted to give her a good Hello Kitty party without spending too much money and getting too much stuff we didn't need. Especially since she is only 4 and the kids her age don't seem to be big party planners. :) I knew I wanted to make them all Hello Kitty ears to wear but I was planning on crocheting them. I had seen felt ones you could buy on etsy but never crochet ones. The problem with crochet ones is it would take forever and I didn't start soon enough to get them all done. I limited the amount of girls she could invite to ten that way it wouldn't be too difficult and cost too much. I found one or two tutorials on making different Hello Kitty ears but I thought I would write my own and show y'all how I did mine.

First I bought some felt and some headbands. I couldn't find felt at my walmart but I was in luck because my friend Amanda had some white felt she wasn't using and let me have it for free! WOO HOO Free always works for me. I even have tons left over to give back to her. Then, I still liked the crochet look so I crochet 11 red bows. I found that tutorial on pinterest as well. If you do not crochet, you can just make felt ones or I am sure you could order some crochet bows on etsy. Here is the tutorial for the crochet ones super-simple-crochet-bows

Onto the ears. I started out by making my own template. What I didn't like about a lot of the ears I found on line was that I think they were way to big. It was my thought that they are cuter when the bow is bigger and the ears are smaller. I made mine about 1 and 1/2 inches tall and I made them 2 inches at the base. You wanna make them like you would a heart. You know how you fold the paper in half a trace half a heart? Fold the paper in half and draw your ear with the base on the fold. It should look something like this

The fold is where my fingers are holding it.

Then you need to open it up and set it up on the felt and trace it. At first I tried to just pin the ear in place and then cut around it but it took way too long. I was trying to avoid the lines I knew would end up on the out side of the ear but don't sweat it because we are going to fix those later any ways. So just trace the ear and don't forget you need 2 ears for each head band. Mine looked like this when I was done

Then start cutting those puppies out!

After I cut out all of my ears I got a headband and figured out where I was going to place them. The headbands I bought had ridges in them to help them to stay on your head and it was just my luck that right where I wanted the ears to go there was a break in the ridges. This made it super simple to place ALLLL of my ears in the same spot on all of the headbands. If you can find headbands that do this, it will make life so much easier. If not, you just need to measure each one before you glue.

Next I place the ear where I want it to go on the underneath of the headband and then put hot glue on the TOP of the headband

Then I squeeze the ear shut only where the glue is on the headband.

Sorry my pictures are a little blurry but I was holding the headband with one hand and the camera in the other. :) Next, I put glue along the inside edges of the ear and pressed them together.

And that's it folks!

Next I just went around and cut off the outside of the ears to get rid of any extra glue sticking out and the pen you can see in the picture. Then I just hot glued on the bows as well. I LOVE how they turned out!

And here is my birthday girl wearing her ears!

Success! Good luck making your ears. And in case you want to see some other tutorials on making these ears here are two others I found.
Felt bow
Felt Headband This one is super cute too but I didn't think I had enough felt or enough time to sew all of them.

GOOD LUCK! Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-78058920083776385432012-11-22T20:26:00.003-08:002012-11-22T21:16:37.382-08:00AWESOME PopcornHave you seen the popcorn recipes out there for popcorn? I LOVE to make popcorn super unhealthily! haha You know, lots of salted sweet cream butter. One of my guilty pleasures is to buy the kettle corn popcorn and after I pop it, I spread melted butter allllllll over it. MMMMMM

While at my parents house for Thanksgiving I bought a bag of the candy cane chocolate kisses. I love white chocolate even more then regular chocolate so these things are like heaven to me. My mom and I popped some pop corn and guess what we did? Made the best stinking popcorn ever! Here is what you need

I love that we used healthy choice popcorn! haha Pop the popcorn and while you are doing that you need to unwrap about half the bag of candy kisses. I put the kisses in a glass mixing bowl with two tablespoons of butter ( I used salted sweet cream ) and stick that in the microwave for about 30 to 45 seconds. Stir until well mixed
Then eat and enjoy the couple of extra pounds you just gained ( with a huge smile on your face ). I am telling you this stuff is awesome. I would make more tonight only it is Thanksgiving and I am stuffed. Not full of turkey but we decided to make potato cheese soup for dinner and eat out of bread bowls. It was delicious. Let me know if you try the popcorn! It's seriously divine!!!

It was not intentional that I took such a long break, but I feel it was necessary! I embarked on a new life a couple of months ago and it has taken some major adjusting to figure out a new schedule for myself and my family. Back in March when I stopped writing, I started up exercising! It has been fantastic for me. I started running and doing cardio 3 days a week with a group of girls from my church. Since I was making a compitment to a healthier me I decided 3 days a week wasn't enough. I decided 5 days a week was really what I needed to be doing. So most mornings start out with a hour and a half work out with my friends. If it isn't the day to work out with them then that means I am grocery shopping or taking my daughter to her dance class. It has been hard finding the time to do anything I want to do in the creative aspect. My biggest creative outlet right now being crochet. It has completely taken over my life. Let me show you a few of my creations in the crochet department.
So there you have it! And that is probably only HALF of the crochet stuff I have done. I found that after I had a basic knowledge of hats and how to make them, it was really easy to create the different character hats. Most of those I just made them up as I went a long. So I would say about half of what you see is from a pattern. Either one I bought on easy or a free pattern I found on line. Then the second half was just made up because someone asked me to make them a certain hat like the Brobee one and the Ninjago hat.

Any ways, I just LOVE crochet and creating things! I still love to sew, it has just taken to the back burner for now. :) I am hoping to try really hard to update more. The first couple of post I am sure will all be catch up of the things I have been doing since March and probably my sons birthday party that is coming up.

Hope everyone has a great day!Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-8628804076900266532012-03-25T18:33:00.000-07:002012-03-25T18:33:40.827-07:00My GirlWe have been super busy lately! I have been doing lots of projects and trying to not go TOO crazy with everything going on. I started to exercise with a group of ladies from church three times a week and it has been keeping me pretty busy. It takes up almost the whole morning each time we meet but I am feeling much better about myself and feeling good. The days we do not get together I work out by myself at home. The other day I ran 4 miles on my elliptical without stopping. I have NEVER done that before. I usually do 3 miles and I usually stop a million times. haha

A couple of weeks ago something happened to me I wanted to share with you. It is personal and not crafty related. BUT it is entertaining! My daughter....my sweet little baby girl KNOCKED HER FRONT TOOTH OUT! I was DEVASTATED! Is it sad that I kept thinking, "Why couldn't it have been my SON?" haha Boys are supposed to have teeth missing but not sweet little baby girls. I cried...a bunch that night but by the end of the next day I just loved her that much more. Her is a picture of her right before she went to be that night.

She was still smiling and waiting for the tooth fairy to come. The tooth fairy felt so bad that she knocked her tooth out she gave her extra money! ;) My poor daughter had a lisp BEFORE she knocked the tooth out so you could only imagine that got much worse. Despite it all I just love her to death and I think it has made her even more adorable! Check out this other picture I got of her last Sunday after church
It really has been a while since I made hair clips for babies. I took pictures for someone's baby shower last month and so I brought a hair thing to give her. She thought it was so cute she asked for my etsy web address and then ordered 4 more clips from me. When I showed up at her house with the hair clips she handed me some flowers and a felt cupcake she found in the dollar section at Michael's. She asked me if I could make her some more clips with the flowers she got. So I got right to work....okay really it took me about a week or two to get around to it. haha The baby isn't born yet and isn't due for another couple of weeks. I have to show you one of the headbands I made though because it is so cute.

Isn't it cute? I hate it sitting on my ugly ironing board but I was in a hurry when I took them. :) She asked me if a couple of them could be Velcro hair clips. I hadn't done those before but it was SO easy!

You just open it up and put the one side under a section of hair and then velcro it closed. Easy right? And what a great way to do hair clips that aren't going to bug little babies heads, or for babies with hair not quit long enough for alligator clips.

I totally didn't take a picture of the rest of the stuff I made her but oh well. Now you can see that I HAVE been working on stuff and I haven't just been sitting around all the time not blogging. I haven't been able to get myself back into blogging after we moved. Before we moved I was already having a hard time. Then the internet wouldn't work and now I have just gotten out of the habit. I really haven't been working on as much stuff either. What has messed me up the most was I ALWAYS blogged first thing in the morning. That is when I always browsed all the blogs I loved too. I would get the kids up and get us all breakfast and then we would sit on the couch together for an hour or so watching cartoons while I had my lap top on my lap either writing a blog, or browsing other blogs. Now we have to get ready for school as soon as I get him up and so there goes my blogging and browsing time. My sons school starts so late and it kinda kills the morning. I haven't also started something new I am really excited about. No it is not ANOTHER crafty project! I think I am busy enough between the sewing, crafting and crocheting for now. I have started exercising a couple of times a week with some ladies from church. My body hurts so bad this week but I don't even care because it would be so wonderful to be in shape again.

So for now, the blogs will continue to be a "whenever I can manage to sit down and write one" thing. Some weeks will be better then others but for now it will have to do.

What has everyone else been working on lately? Anything for Easter?Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-15871498681844740712012-03-11T08:18:00.010-07:002012-03-11T08:18:00.160-07:00Buttercup BagI haven't made the buttercup bag in a while. I decided about a year ago to actually buy the pattern with the license to sell it, then never made it. Sometimes I do silly things like that. I have had "plans" but just never did it. SO, a friend had a birthday and I thought I'd better make her something. I decided to do a purse for her and so I busted out with the enlarged version of the buttercup bag. I found this cute fabric at walmart and I think it turned out really cute.

I didn't want the inside to be JUST black so I put a strip of the polka dot fabric just at the top of the pocket. I love how the inside turned out.
I like the light blue flower too. It gave just the right tough to finish it off. I hope you like it Kerry!Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-12383339222458647262012-03-10T08:12:00.000-08:002012-03-10T08:12:09.686-08:00Cupcake HatSo who here follows the blog U-create? I'm sure a lot of you do. It's such a great blog. I found a tutorial for a cupcake crochet hat on there and decided to make it for a friends baby shower. I didn't realize that it was going to be a little challenging for me! He had some stitches I had never done before but once I looked them up on youtube, I was good to go. Here is how it came out

See that bottom part right there? That is the part that had me looking up stuff to see how to do it. I had never done the back stitches before. It was very easy, you just have to pay very close attention to what you are doing or I guarantee you will mess up! So who else wants to make one? It was really quick just so everyone knows so give it a try. Here is the link HERE Also I have a bunch of other cute crochet projects pinned on my "crochet" pinboard if you want to take a look HERE I am SLOWLY trying to do as many of them as I can. :) What have y'all been working on lately? I have many more projects that I FINALLY got pictures loaded for so in the next day or two I will try and post some more. Happy Saturday everyone!!!Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-54001657440668524772012-02-28T16:24:00.000-08:002012-02-28T16:24:07.797-08:00About TimeWell, now that it is almost March, why not finally post pictures of my sons Valentine's me made for his kindergarten class this year.

Seriously, what is my problem lately?

Here you go

Mustaches and lips! They were fun to make and not TOO much work.

So Happy LATE Valentine's day! I hope everyone here had a great day. Did anyone else make Valentine's for their kids class?
While we were there we noticed the obscene amount of guys leaving with flowers for their wives/girlfriend/significant others. My husband and I have an understanding that he is NOT allowed to buy me flowers on Valentines day. I told him that is anything, he should wait until the next day when they go on sale for 50% off. I wonder how many times he has done that and the people he was buying them from were thinking what a horrible guy he was for "forgetting" to get me some on the right day! haha

While we were at Costco I had to laugh because while going through the meat I saw this

REALLY? Who thought that a woman would see this and say to herself, "OOOOOH I bet my husband would LOVE a heart shaped steak!" haha And if a man was ACTUALLY cooking this for his wife for dinner I highly doubt most would think cooking them a heart shaped cow was romantic. Maybe if she REALLY loved steak. I think more so the fact that they were getting dinner cooked for them would be more then enough but whatever. I just thought it was hilarious. I had to share.

My son and I made Valentines for his class. I'll share later. We are about to leave to take him to school. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY everyone!

Here is what I got from my hubby

In my opinion, this beats flowers ANY day!Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-54776812614036238572012-02-10T09:50:00.000-08:002012-02-10T09:50:01.095-08:00ChickenWe eat a LOT of chicken. My poor husband. He loves beef. He would eat it all the time but me...not os much. He has got to me like steak and we cook that a couple of times a month. I don't really like hamburgers that much. I like them at places like McDonald's and In-N-Out because they are super thin. If somewhere has a fat patty, I can't handle it. I also like Taco Bell's "beef" which is ironic because a couple of months ago there was a lot of talk about Taco Bell and how it's beef is actually so little beef, that people were getting mad that they were calling it beef. Um, gross. But at the same time explains so much why I can actually eat there's.

Any ways. We get tired of cooking chicken in the same ways over and over again. We found a recipe that we tried and it was really good so I thought I'd share it with you.

You get some chicken breast. Either you can get thin sliced OR you can take whatever chicken breast you have and pound them thin. Then you put a piece of cheese in the center. The recipe said to use Kraft singles which I liked but my husband didn't. The second time we made it we used sliced provolone which was good too. So use whatever cheese you think sounds good! You then roll the chicken up around the cheese ( which is why you want the chicken to be thin ) and then you wrap a piece of bacon around the entire thing and close it with a tooth pick. The missionaries from our church were coming over for dinner when we tried this and we told them we were experimenting on them, which I am sure they LOVE to hear. haha Then we told them what it was and the one missionary said you can't go wrong if you wrap something in bacon!

Next you take these bad boys and either throw them on a grill, skillet or frying pan. We just fried them on the frying pan. Do each side for a couple of minutes. I kept flipping them every 5 minutes or so. Having a lid on helps. When the chicken are starting to look cooked, you take some Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing and dump it all over the chicken.

MMMMMMMM I'm telling you this meal was pretty tasty. Cooking chicken always makes me nervous so we used the thermometer and made sure it was at least 160 degrees before eating. One thing I learned from Doctor Oz ( who knows Dr. Oz and LOVES him!? ) If you freeze your chicken it kills 99% of bacteria so I ALWAYS freeze my chicken just in case.

So just remember, wrap thin chicken around a piece of cheese, then wrap with a piece of bacon and fry. Dump some dressing on at the end and eat! The dressing really soaks into the chicken and makes it super yummy and moist. My only complaint is that the bacon doesn't crisp up and cook very well. The second time we made this I cooked the bacon in the oven for about 10 minutes before wrapping and it helped a little but it still didn't cook as well as I would have liked. My husband liked it just fine so it's just a matter of preference.

And one more thing! VERY important!!! The recipe reminds you to take out the toothpicks before serving. haha Thank you recipe for making sure I don't eat a tooth pick! Now go make this and enjoy.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-9155048622547776802012-01-29T20:30:00.000-08:002012-01-29T20:30:48.361-08:00Coconut Oil RemixSo almost a year ago I started my coconut oil kick! I LOVE THIS STUFF! Just now while browsing pinterest I found a blog post that list 160 uses for coconut oil. Seriously guys. READ THIS ARTICLE! It talks about using it as a nipple cream, lubricant, and face moisturizer to helping cancer, sunburns and toenail fungus. This stuff ROCKS! It's magical and we should ALL be using it! Take a look HEREKatiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-40513963837147960372012-01-29T20:07:00.000-08:002012-01-29T20:07:02.252-08:00Air FreshenerSo we all know the baking soda deodorizes right? Well, while at a friends house once I noticed she had a mason jar with baking soda in it with holes poked in the shape of a heart on the top. Hmmmmmm. I wondered what it was but never asked. then I started noticing them on pinterest. I finally decided to try it. So here is what you do.

Take a mason jar.

Add baking soda.

Add essential oil. I used cinnamon but you could use anything.

I added a LOT! Like 15 drops or so.

Put the lid on. Take a hammer and a nail and poke holes in it. You can make a shape or just poke away randomly. I copied my friend and did a heart. In case you are wondering, I am talking about you Amanda! haha

Then I placed it in my kids bathroom.

IT. WORKS. GREAT!

Every time I go into their bathroom, I just shake the jar around a bit and the whole bathroom smells of cinnamon. AWESOME.

Cheap, easy and no chemicals. That's my kind of fresh air.

Try it....you'll love it.

My newest since November has been crocheting and I am telling you I have gone crochet CRAZY! But I LOVE it and I am loving all of the things I have been making. My daughter turns 3 on Sunday and so Friday we are having a princess party. I was going to crochet princess crowns for her friends but I think I have run out of time to do that. HOwever, I got hers done today and put little pearls in it and it turned out SO cute! I love it.

She would NOT model it for me ( she is s stinker like that some times ) so I promise it looks much cuter on. I have also been doing a lot of hats. I am LOVING the hats! Check out these ones I just crocheted this weekend and put in my etsy shop.

Okay so this first one I actually made for ME but it was too small for my huge head. Just barely too. If my hair was long I could get away with it but it's short and looked funny.
This next one is so cute! It is a new born one and is so tiny. I love the HUGE bow on it and I am loving the grey and yellow together.

And lastly a toddle size hat. I love the yellow and white together. This hat was pretty easy to make so I think I will be making more in different colors for my shop. I might try and make one of these ones for me.

So please tell me I am not the only one who becomes obsessed with things when you first start learning them? Pretty please.....Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-67768835644377032602012-01-25T20:31:00.000-08:002012-01-25T20:31:05.577-08:00GrandmaMy mom and dad came to visit along with my sister Kim and her baby Jacob. We had lots of un and ate way to much food. It was great. While they were here we went to go visit my Grandma who lives a little over an hour or so away from me in a nursing home. My grandma wears a wig and she used to always wear a fake flower in it. SOOOOO my sister thought it would be fun to make her a bunch of flower clips to bring her. The night before we went to see her we put the kids to bed and then made some hair clips for her. We also made some for her roommate because we didn't want her to feel left out! :)

Check out what Grandma scored.
I haven't done this in forever. I didn't get anything else blogged the other day and now my parents are on their way and I have been trying to get things super clean. It is the first time my family will be able to see my new house. I am excited. As I was cleaning I found this quote from a lesson at church a couple of weeks ago. I can not say who said this because it isn't on the slip on paper so if any one knows who said it let me know and I will add it. Any ways Here is the quote! ENJOY
Let me just tell you that I didn't plan that. IN fact I have at LEAST 3 blogs that I took pictures for and never posted. Ever since we moved we have had major problems with our internet. I would get to the end of my blog and hit the publish post button and the internet would stop working and I would lose it. It was very frustrating, not to mention a big fat waste of time to sit around and write a post to not have to save or publish. BUT we think we have got it all squared away now. My problem now is getting back into the habit of posting. It's not that I do not have projects going on. I have had many finished projects. Those I have pictures of I will slowly start to post. My project for today is an ear warmer.

I made this for my sister using an old Old Navy sweater. I cut it up and sewed it together to make the ear warmer part. Then I put two buttons on it which are a pretty pale yellow ( LOVE yellow and grey together ) and then made a crochet grey flower. I LOVE how it turned out. She walks daily with her best friend Liz and so I made them both ear warmer's for Christmas. Hopefully they enjoy them and use them on their walks to keep those ears warm.

Now here's hoping I can get some more stuff up. My parents and sister and her baby are coming tomorrow and will be here until Tuesday so I am hoping that maybe I can get a bunch of stuff posted today and scheduled for them to post through out the weekend. Crossing my fingers!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-32015071427087201422011-12-14T10:17:00.000-08:002011-12-14T10:17:32.624-08:00Favorite Quick CookiesI can not remember if I have posted this recipe here on my blog or not so I thought I would write a quick post today. I know a lot of people are baking like crazy around the holidays. If you are in need of a quick and easy but SUPER YUMMY cookie recipe give this one a try.

Easy Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup brown sugar
1 stick of butter
1 egg

Blend together until smooth

Add 2 cups Bisquick ( you know, the pancake mix! )

Then add whatever goodies you want. I always add white chocolate chips or regular ones. My mom also adds walnuts but I don't like those so I skip them. These cookies are SUPER easy and SUPER yummy. The Bisquick gives it a great flavor and you only have to remember 4 ingredients. What is not to love about that? I also like to add flax seed because I like to add that into anything I think I can sneak it into. So give it a try. Let me know how you like them if you try them. Oh yeah and bake them at 350 for 10 to 12 minutes ( depending on how small or big you make them )

Oh and just a trick my mom taught us growing up that I LOVE to do is before you take them out of the oven, I cut open a brown paper bag ( I swear grocery stores STILL carry them, you usually just have to ask ) Lay the brown paper bag out flat on the counter and when the cookies are still hot transfer them onto the brown paper bag and it drawls out any of the extra oil and grease.

ENJOY and I will try and get some actual crafts up here soon.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-58911706939408859752011-12-09T11:04:00.000-08:002011-12-09T11:04:17.357-08:00Some Free PatternsSo I have been on the internet looking for different kinds of free crochet patterns. I am LOVING Youtube these days. I have never really used youtube before but when I started looking up crochet stuff I found someone who makes all kinds of crochet video's and I love all of her stuff. I have started a board on pinterest for all of the patterns I have been finding. I made a hat for me using a video but then I REALLY wanted to try and make a hat using a pattern. I haven't really been able to figure out the patterns yet. My mom helped me while I was in Utah for Thanksgiving and so I decided to go for it and try. I actually made a hat and it ACTUALLY turned out cute! It was supposed to be for me so it is a little long for Kayla but it was too tight and looked ridiculous on me. Mostly because I messed up my count and when I got done I realized that instead of there being 58 stitches I only had 40 something! haha Yeah, that could be it. :) Any ways here it is
ENJOY! I'll be posting more as I find them and make stuff. I can't believe I got to post TWICE in the same day! WOO HOO Let's hope I can keep it up and get some more stuff up on here over the next week or so.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-31305892523831149052011-12-09T10:19:00.000-08:002011-12-09T10:19:20.849-08:00A Soup Recipe JUST for YouMan has it been COLD here! The other day I went to take my son to school and I noticed that the water bottle in my car was frozen. It wasn't frozen solid but it was pretty close. My husband is one of those people who only enjoys soup when it's cold. I will eat it ANY time because, well, it's so yummy. Since it was cold I really wanted to make soup. I busted out a recipe and changed it up a bit. Want to have it? I thought so...

Potato Cheese Broccoli Soup

4 potatoes ( washed and peeled and cut up )
4 cups of water
1 onion OR onion powder
A can of cream of chicken soup
A head of broccoli
Carrots
A block of sharp cheddar cheese

Boil the 4 cups of water and cut up potatoes for 10 to 15 minutes. I stir occasionally so nothing sticks to the bottom. If you are an onion person add some chopped up onion now. I HATE onions so I opted for some onion powder. I put about one teaspoon or so into the pot.

Next you want to add a chopped up head of broccoli. The amount you put in is up to your person preference. I also take carrots and shred them straight into the soup with a cheese grater. You can also add celery if that sounds good but I usually don't do that. Add a can of cream of chicken soup. I couldn't find my recipe when I made it the other day so I added two small cans and it turned out super yummy. Next I shred up a block of sharp cheddar. THIS made a big difference for me. the recipe calls for half a block of velveeta which taste great BUT the soup never seems to heat up well. This time I did the REAL cheese and it heated up perfect. Again it is up to you though. keep stirring. If you like soft broccoli you might want to add the broccoli in towards the end of your 10 to 15 minutes of boiling the potatoes. This will help make them softer. Once everything feels soft you are done! I stir quite a bit at the end because if you don't it sticks to the bottom and then burns.

So how do you serve this? My FAVORITE way to serve this is with sour dough bread bowls. Let me tell you, I HATE soup dough. I don't like it at all but for some reason it rocks my world with this soup! I tried doing regular old french bread with it once and was so disappointed at how different it tasted. I like to cut off the top of the bread soup, scoop out the inside and then stick it in the oven with some butter and garlic salt sprinkled on. I even butter and sprinkle garlic salt on the lid and use that to scoop up soup. If you can not find bread bowls I sometimes just get the sough dough loaf and then cut it up into strips and butter and add the garlic salt to those.

Want to see the soup?

yeah, I forgot to take pictures. Trust me when I say it was fabulous! And here is what I did to the sough dough loaf to make it easier to dip in my soup ( and yummier! )

Sorry for the horrible pictures. I took them with my cell phone.

So don't think I am not posting because I have given up on blogging. I have not had much time and when I do have time and TRY to write a blog my internet quits working. It has been SUPER frustrating for me. Something got messed up between my lap top and our router and it kicks me off constantly but it NEVER kicks my husband off. So I could just use his lap top right? Not really because ALL of my pictures are on MY lap top. I am hoping to get this resolved at some point because it is driving me nuts. I have some projects to post and I am hoping to get some up right now since the internet seems to be working. Here's hoping...
Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-56080031094451313042011-12-04T18:54:00.000-08:002011-12-04T18:54:23.578-08:00Birthday BoyMy son turned 6 this week! He is SO big! He REALLY wanted to have a Super Hero party, so while I was in Utah last week I started looking on pinterest and all over the web for ideas. I found some good stuff on line. I am telling you though that people spend an obscene amount on money on kids birthdays. When I was little we were allowed to have a party every other birthday and we were allowed to invite close friends. We had cake that my mom made and some simple games. When we were older my parents would take us toilet papering. haha Anyone else do that? I have been so many times I can't even count them. My husband NEVER went. I told him I would take him someday! haha

Any ways. We made some invitations and I wanted them to be really cute. So I took a bunch of pictures of my son in a cape and made him look like he was flying.

I then added the border and the POW WHAM on picnik.com

I think it turned out cute! We ended up having about 19 or 20 kids here and that is not included my kids. It was LOUD and the kids seemed to have lots of fun running all over the place, hitting each other with balloons and pretending to be super heros. Most kids wore costumes or capes and I also had some masks for those who didn't have anything. We had hot dogs, mac and cheese, sandwiches and snack food for everyone to eat. We also had cup cakes for the kids and cake for the adults. We also had some super hero pages for them to color, a pin the emblem on the super hero ( which was a picture of Tyler blown up huge ) and then we also did face painting. The face painting was a hit with everyone too. Unfortunately it ended up smeared on the carpet and on the couch! We washed it out though so no big deal. Tyler got a TON of presents. He also got a lot of money. He was lucky. We handed out little Batman gift bags to everyone too. It was fun and Kayla can't WAIT to have a princess party in January. Here are a few pictures.
I like Kayla peeking through behind Tyler in the last picture! haha It was a good time and after I was completely exhausted. The funny thing is when I went to bed I couldn't sleep. Maybe it was all the cake and frosting I ate. I LOVE frosting! ;)Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-18020237758041860802011-11-26T09:17:00.001-08:002011-11-26T09:17:54.442-08:00BACKWe are back from Utah. It was a fun, yet interesting trip! I am hoping to post soon! Stay tuned for more crochet things. It has been my new addiction. I am very much enjoying it.

How's everyone's Christmas decorating going? We haven't started yet. We are busting out the tree tomorrow. It will be fun setting it up in our new house.

Until next time...Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-46740654071945203562011-11-20T07:37:00.000-08:002011-11-20T07:37:22.981-08:00No Internet No TimeBetween moving and having no internet I have not been able to write a post. I am leaving in an hour or so ( If I can get packed that fast ) to drive to Utah to see my parents. My husband has to stay home and work and so it's just me and the kids. It will be our first time driving there since Kayla potty trained. It should be interesting. Here's hoping we make it okay and I don't have to kill anyone. :)Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-44348583497204059062011-11-08T14:53:00.000-08:002011-11-08T14:53:59.569-08:00Newest ObsessionMy poor husband! I just get into these kicks and want to do new things. First it was making hair bows when my daughter was born. Then sewing. Then sewing anything and everything but mostly purses. Then it was creating fabric hair bows and accessories and opening up the etsy shop. Then I started doing odds and ends things here and there. Next, garters, shoes clips....blah blah blah. NOW I have taken on a new challenge.

CROCHET! I am in love with crochet right now! I mean REALLY. My hand is absolutely killing me because I can't keep my yarn right and my hands are all over the place but I love it so far. I found this free tutorial and pinned it here I didn't actually learn the pattern because.....well....have you looked at a crochet pattern? Um HARD! I have no clue how to read them. So I found an online youtube video that shows you how to make them and in ten short minutes I had me a bow! The grey was my first and the orange was my second. Right now I am working on a flower but as I mentioned before my left hand is on fire and it's time for me to go pick up my boy from school.

Who else crochet's? I want to know. Leave me a comment and let me know where you like to get your patterns from. I found a million free ones on line and have been into the youtube video's since I am a beginner. Everyone told me just just try it but I wanted someone to show me. I finally just went on line and looked and WOW! Now I am hooked....no pun intended! :)Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716022228775789595.post-83461172974452473572011-11-07T13:33:00.000-08:002011-11-07T13:33:58.485-08:00The New PlaceThis week starts moving week. It is going to be crazy, hectic and exciting. I told y'all I would post some pictures so I thought I'd do so now while I am in between packing boxes ( oh which I only have like 10 to 15 packed and my house is a MESS! YIKES!!! )

Here is the front of the house from a couple of angles
Now I can't wait to be moved in! Do you know that I call myself a photographer but have lived in this house here for almost a year and we NEVER put pictures up? It drove me NUTS. I can't WAIT to start decorating and hanging pictures. EEEEEEEEEEEEE

So I will most likely not be on again this week, for obvious reasons. I have crafted a little and if I have a moment to spare I might try and show you one or two. Have a great week everyone and I can't wait to blog again from my new houseKatiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10501249577240004302noreply@blogger.com5
